This is a common type of error that can occur any time you update or install Warframe. The error results when the Warframe Launcher is unable to complete the update or installation. The specific reason for the error can vary based on local or external factors.
Basic Troubleshooting
The following fixes will resolve most update and installation errors in Warframe. They can be performed with a minimal amount of technical knowledge.
Check For External Issues
- Updates or Servers Issues: Please check our forums to see if there are currently any issues reported. If an update has just been released, our server may be experiencing a higher volume of traffic and you will need to wait a little bit before trying again.
- ISP: If you are experiencing similar issues with other games contact your ISP to see if there is a known issue or if maintenance is affecting your region.
Restart Computer
Restarting your computer is always a good first step. It flushes all kinds of system states and caches while resetting other programs and releasing locks on files and other resources.
Restart Modem/Router
Restarting your router and modem (also called a power cycle reset) can also help solve many update issues.
To do this:
- Turn off your PC or Console
- Unplug or power off your modem, router, and any other connected network devices for 30 seconds.
- Plug in/power on your modem
- Wait 30 seconds, and turn on your router and any other connected network devices.
- Turn on your PC or Console
- Load up Warframe!
Monitor Your Network Traffic
Check your PC or any others on your network that may be using more bandwidth than normal. If another device is streaming video or transferring data while you are trying to update it may negatively impact your download speed or your ability to connect. Please STOP all other uploads, downloads, and streaming on all devices if you are still experiencing problems.
Use Wired Connection
Wi-Fi is obviously more convenient than wired Ethernet cables. But Ethernet still offers advantages — faster speeds, lower latency, and no wireless interference problems. Temporarily connecting your PC or console to the router/modem using Ethernet cables, can eliminate many problems that can be caused by poor Wi-Fi connection.
-
If using a wired connection is not possible try to reduce the interference between the router and your PC's Wi-Fi receiver.
- Relocate your wireless router closer to the PC's Wi-Fi receiver. If that isn't an option, move it away from nearby routers, appliances or dense building materials (walls).
- Reduce the number of wireless gadgets connected to the Wi-Fi. The more gadets and the closer they are to each other, the higher chance you may run into interference.
- Change the wireless frequency: Check with your router's manual or the manufacturer on the most optimal channel and channel width to use for your Wi-Fi connection. For example, 20mhz is less susceptible to interference and collisions with other network devices than 40mhz.
Verify Download Cache
Verifying the game cache files can help ensure the installation is up-to-date and, if necessary, repair any bad or corrupted game data. It compares the game files you have installed on your computer with those of the latest version on Warframe’s content delivery network (CDN). If it is different in any way, it replaces or adds any missing files.
You can do this in the Warframe's stand-alone launcher settings menu. After opening the launcher, please follow the steps below:
- Click on the little gear in the upper right of the Warframe launcher
- Click Verify, and then wait until the process is completed
- After you have verified the cache, please click Optimize
Antivirus/Firewall and Proxy Issues
Firewall or routing software/hardware will generally have advanced settings to prioritize and manage types of network traffic. Sometimes this software can interfere with the delivery of data for Warframe updates or new installations. Fixing it can be as simple as telling that software to allow Warframe through its filters.
To do this:
- Add an exception to all of your firewall and anti-virus software (including Windows Firewall) for "Launcher.exe" and "Warframe.x64.exe".
-
If you are using a third-party firewall you can test temporarily disabling it to see if the update is getting blocked. If so, contact the program's support team for assistance configuring it for Warframe.
Remember to re-enable the firewall after completing this test
- Also please make sure to check your proxy settings: search for Internet Options on the Windows Control Panel, click on the “Connections – LAN Settings” tab and make sure that the “use automatic configuration script” and “proxy server” options are UN-checked.
- If you are running a proxy or VPN, we recommend disabling these as well to confirm if the traffic they are routing is interfering with your download.
Investigate Third-Party Software Conflicts
Any software that modifies or monitors system, disk or network activity can cause issues while downloading or installing Warframe. Most of the time, you may not even know they are there, because a lot of software will try to run bits and pieces of itself as part of your Windows startup process. By temporarily disabling these programs from booting, they can be eliminated as the source of the problem.
This article provided by Microsoft will give you more detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot this kind of problem:
Here, we also listed some 3rd party software having compatibility issues with Warframe that were reported by our players:
- Baidu IME
- GeDoSaTo - GeDoSaTo64.dll
- Raptr overlay
- Lucid VirtuWatt software
- Razer Synapse Program
- Razer Chroma SDK (Game automatically closed/crashed by itself while logging in the game)
- Rivatuner Statistics Server
- MSI Afterburner OSD
Please follow reverse the steps above to reset the computer to start normally after testing.
