What are mods?
Warframe's Mod System is based on cards that can be found while you play the game.
There are four different kinds of mods in Warframe:
- General Mods - Improve your weapon / Warframe / Sentinel
- Augment Mods - Alter the Ability / weapon behaviour, or add new functionalities
- Auras/Stances - Passive powers that raise your available mod points
- Precepts - Behaviour schemes for Companions
Every mod has its own characteristics:
- Name - The name of the mod
- Cost - How much it costs to install this mod
- Polarity - One of eight different polarities, Polarity affects mod installation cost
- Description - The mod's effect when it's installed
- Category - Shows on what kind of item the mod can be used
- Rank - Can be upgraded through fusion
Each mod also has different rarities, which are indicated by their border colour:
Bronze - Common | Silver - Uncommon | Gold - Rare |
Adding Mods to your Equipment
To add mods to your equipment, go to your Arsenal and select the item you want to equip with mods.
You will see three buttons next to the item:
- EQUIP - Lets you equip different items
- UPGRADE - Brings you to the item's mod screen
- APPEARANCE - Opens the customization options
Select UPGRADE and you will see the mod screen:
This example uses an Excalibur Warframe, showing a total of 60 mod points that are available to spend on upgrades. In the picture above, you can see the empty mod slots with their polarities, while the bottom side shows you the compatible mods from your inventory that can be equipped.
You can choose one of the mods from the bottom and equip it to one of the open slots. If the polarity of the card and slot match, the amount of mod points utilized is cut in half (rounded up). However, if the polarities do not match, the mod will utilize more points than listed. Slots without polarities always use the amount of points displayed on the mod.
When you are finished equipping mods, select the BACK button and you will return to the Arsenal.
Mod Fusion
Fusing mods will raise the mod rank and improve the strength of its effect, but it will also increase the cost of the mod to equip.
You can fuse mods at the Mod Station of your Liset located in the lower compartment.
Accessing the Mod Station will bring you to the mod screen, where all of your available mods are listed. Here you can fuse, transmute, and/or sell them.
To start a fusion, select the mod your want to upgrade and select FUSION on the top left side of the screen.
You can now choose the desired upgrade level of the mod, the maximum upgrade level is dictated by the amount of owned Endo and Credits.
Once you are sure that you want to go through with this process, select APPLY FUSION and confirm the process.
Mod Transmutation
You can also transmute mods that you no longer need (or those you have multiple copies of) by exchanging 4 mods in a gamble for a new, random mod. Using rarer mods in the transmutation process raises your chances of getting a rare mod, but it does not guarantee it.
In order to transmute mods, go to the mod screen and select 4 unranked mods, then click on TRANSMUTE. A confirmation screen will pop up with the list of mods that will be used and the amount of credit that will be deducted.
Once you hit YES the mods and credits will be expended and you will be awarded with a new random mod.
Selling Mods
If you don't want to use mods in a fusion or transmutation, you can choose to sell them for Credits or Endo.
Select the mod(s) you wish to sell, then click SELL at the top right of the screen.
Once you have selected your mod(s) to sell, a confirmation screen will appear detailing how many mods you are selling and how many credits will be added to your account upon process completion.
Sorting Mods
Once you collect a fair amount of mods, you may have trouble finding specific mods you are looking for. Here are some tricks you can use to assist finding mods:
SEARCH...: You can manually type out the name of the mod you are looking for in the search box
Category Tabs: You can select one of the category tab to only show mods from that category.
Sort by: You can rearrange the displayed mods in different order, such as name, rarity, newly obtained, etc.
You can also select FILTER at the bottom right side of the screen where you can configure filter settings.
