Here we have listed some of the most common and basic troubleshooting tips that will help Warframe run at higher performance levels, a higher frame rate and hopefully with less chance of a catastrophic crash in the future.
Verify and Optimize Warframe’s Cache Files
Verifying the game cache files can help to ensure that the installation of a game is up-to-date and, if necessary, repair any bad or corrupted game data. It compares the game files you have installed on your computer with those of the latest version on Warframe’s content distribution network (CDN). If it is different in any way, it replaces or adds on any files. If you ever have a problem with the game, this is always the first thing you need to do.
You can do this in the Warframe's stand-alone launcher settings menu. After opening the launcher, please follow the steps below:
- Click on the little gear in the upper right of the Warframe launcher
- Click Verify, and then wait until the process is completed
- After you have verified the cache, please click Optimize
For more in-depth reading about the Optimize option, please refer to this thread here.
Update Your Windows, Video Card Drivers, and Other Drivers
Updating drivers used to be a confusing, time-consuming, and sometimes dangerous affair, but nowadays it’s much easier. Updates can improve performance, increase stability, and even enable new features.
Before updating the drivers, it is very important to update your windows and create a restore point:
There are 3 major Video chip manufacturers, please refer to your PCs manual (or that really smart friend) if you are unsure what brand of video card/chip your PC has.
* Some Intel-based PCs (usually notebooks) require modified drivers directly from the Manufacturer, please check with your PC manufacturer for the latest drivers.
Other than the latest graphic drivers, you might want to install the latest drivers for the rest of your devices as well. Faulty drivers such as audio drivers and network or wireless adapter drivers can also cause gaming issues.
Reduce Graphic Settings
Graphics settings, as you might expect, tweak how your computer draws images on your screen in Warframe. They can make blurry textures sharper, jagged edges smooth, and even let you see further into the distance. However, all these things come at a cost: performance (and sometimes stability). If you have a rather low-powered computer you may want to lower the graphics intensity so your games run smoother, or if you have a beast of a gaming PC, you may want to turn them up so your game looks as epic as possible.
The following settings are some of the most demanding options that might stress your computer and that you might want to tweak first:
In the Game launcher you can disable Beta API or Enhanced Graphics Engine:
- DirectX 11 or DirectX 12
Also, try disabling/lowering the following in-game options under the DISPLAY tab:
- Geometry Detail
- Particle System Quality
- GPU Particles
- Shadow Quality
- Texture Memory
- Anisotropic Filtering
- Anti-aliasing
- Upscaling (FSR,DLSS)
Alternatively, we provide a tweaking short-cut option under the DISPLAY tab as well:
- Graphics Quality > Preset to Medium or Low
Disable Non-Essential software That Might Be Interfering With Warframe
Some third-party programs running in the background can interfere with the normal functioning of Warframe and may even prevent it from running at all. Most of the time, you may not even know they are there, because a lot of software will try to run bits and pieces of itself as part of your Windows startup process, quietly loading up things in the background that you don't really need. By temporarily disabling these programs from booting, they can be eliminated as the source of the problem.
This article provided by Microsoft will give you more detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot this kind of problem: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/331796
Here, we also listed some 3rd party software having compatibility issues with Warframe that were reported by our players:
- Baidu IME
- GeDoSaTo - GeDoSaTo64.dll
- Raptr overlay
- Lucid VirtuWatt software
- Razer Synapse Program
- Razer Chroma SDK (Game automatically closed/crashed by itself while logging in the game)
- Rivatuner Statistics Server
- MSI Afterburner OSD

Run a Virus/Malware Scan
Computers get “sick” and catch viruses just like people. Detecting and removing the harmful virus, malware and spyware can keep your computer healthy and running optimally.
Here is a list of some Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware programs. While we cannot recommend any one specific program, the AntiVirus/Anti-Malware programs listed below are simply suggestions and we are NOT endorsing one over another.
NOTE: It is NOT recommended to run multiple Anti-Virus software applications at the same time, it will surely cause trouble if you have more than one antivirus programs running in the background.
When it comes to protecting your computer, more protection is not better. Please do some research, ask friends for recommendations and choose one comprehensive antivirus program that suits your needs and budget the best.
If your problem is still not resolved after trying all these steps above, please send us a ticket and don't forget to include the information listed here in your ticket!
